photography overload

I'm really enjoying my new hobby of photography and may be going a little bit overboard with it, but I love it so much and I can't seem to stop snapping pics. For my own "scrapbook/journal" purposes, I wanted to upload my favorite pics from today, but please feel free to skip this post b/c it's simply (more) pics of Jasper.

our afternoon

I've been researching photography a lot recently and I've been inspired to start taking more creative pictures; pictures from different angles, pictures of normal household activities in which Jasper isn't necessarily looking at the camera or smiling, pictures focusing on fingers, toes, eyelashes, etc.

So with that in mind, I tried to snap some creative pictures of Jasper doing our normal, everyday activities this afternoon.

This is our life- week 5

About an hour ago, I decided to do the "This is our Life" project, which is a really, really cool photography concept. It's all about "everyday life" photography, trying to capture ordinary, everyday concepts of your life in new and creative ways. Basically, there's a theme each week, you take pics throughout the week of things in your life having to do with that theme, and then at the end of the year, you take your favorite pic from each week and you have an awesome collection of 52 photos (1 from each week) that capture everyday moments from the year 2013.

The new theme for each week is posted every Monday morning, and since I just decided to do this project, I had about 1 hour to take pictures for the theme from this last week, which is "capture the light". The idea was to take pics of "light" in a new and creative way.

Since Jasper was in bed and Andrew and I were watching the SuperBowl together, I took a few pics of our SuperBowl snacks, trying to capture and focus on "light" in a new way.

The week of change

Man, oh man.

This week has definitely been the week of change in Jasper's life (and thus, in my life as well). In hindsight, I think maybe we should have spaced out these 4 major life-changes, but for some reason, they all just happened to happen within the last 6 days.

Change #1- limiting his binky (aka pacifier) to his crib ONLY.
We implemented this change on Monday and this change has been challenging, mainly because Jasper has been addicted to his binky since birth. He's done ok with this change, and it has the helpful bonus of making him love his crib even more than he already does. But it is challenging for me because he fusses a lot more now when he's tired in the car, etc. But we're slowly making progress with this.

Change #2- big boy undies
We implemented this change on Tuesday and I already blogged about Jasper transitioning from diapers to big boy undies on days while we're here at home, but what I haven't written about is how much he LOVES his undies. Absolutely LOVES them. He's very proud of his "big udies", as he calls them. It's pretty cute! This change has been fun and has gone really well, despite a few accidents.

Change #3- turning his crib into a toddler bed
I have been so, so nervous about this change and have been putting it off for months. However, due to Andrew's insight and prompting, we implemented this change last night, on Friday evening. I have poured hours of heartfelt prayers into this change; I've feared Jasper refusing to get in bed, refusing to stay in bed, wandering the house during the wee hours of the morning, falling down flights of steps and breaking his neck, etc. However, this change has been amazing. While it's only been 24 hours since we converted his crib to a toddler bed, it's been a perfect scenario. Jasper loves, loves, loves his big boy bed and is SO proud to have it. He calls it his "big ed" and it's his favorite place in the house; the pictures below are when we first showed him his big boy bed last evening. He seriously couldn't stop rolling around and doing somersaults in it; he was in heaven!

He's yet to get out of the bed once we put him in there, and when he wakes up, he plays quietly, just like normal. I give God all the credit for this. If you know Jasper, then you'll know how "wiggly" and energetic this little boy is. The ONLY way this change could have gone so smoothly is for the Lord to have His hand on it. I'm thanking God constantly for how smoothly this is all going so far; His grace astounds me.

Change #4- Jasper's 1st hair cut
Jasper's 20 months old and has never had his hair cut before; it's not necessarily long, but it sure is shaggy. Weeks ago, we scheduled his appointment with our dear friend and neighbor, Amy, who is my hair stylist, also, and the appointment was today, Saturday. In contrast to change #3, I didn't pray about this "change" at all. I didn't even give it much thought. That was a huge mistake. Huge, huge, huge. Andrew got 1 or 2 cute pictures of Jasper getting his hair cut, but Jasper's happiness lasted only about .02 seconds before the gates opened up and the dams burst forth and the wailing, gulping, "I'm-being-tortured-someone-save-me" screaming started. It was absolutely horrible. However, Amy gave Jasper 2 suckers during our visit, and ever since the appointment, Jasper has talked in happy, excited, and elated tones of "Amy!! 2!! uckers! 2 uckers!". And then he'll touch his hair and happily talk about Amy some more. Thankfully, Jasper acts like it was the best experience of his life. :o) Due to all the emotional trauma and torture-like convulsions, Amy didn't really get to cut any hair. She got maybe 2 or 3 snips in, but that's about it. We've all agreed that it was Jasper's first and last ever hair cut. I'm not sure any of us could go through that again.

Now, I know we just started implementing change #1 where we are limiting Jasper's binky, but we brought it along today just in case he would go crazy during the hair cut, and since he did indeed go crazy during his hair cut, we let him have his binky. Little help that it did, though, poor baby.

Now here we are, on Saturday night, and after 4 changes in Jasper's life in the past 6 days, I have to admit that my momma's heart is a little weary tonight (it doesn't help that he's been a downright ornery pistol all week; he's gotten loads and loads of loving discipline.). I've been so excited to see our baby grow and change into a young boy, but it's definitely been hard for me to say goodbye to the baby stage; it's also been a lot of work and emotional drain to go through these changes so quickly. While Andrew was giving Jasper a tubby tonight, I was reading the bible and the Lord really refreshed my soul with the following 2 verses:

"Make me to know Your ways, O Lord;
teach me Your paths.
Lead me in Your truth and teach me,
for You are the God of my salvation;
for You I wait all the day long."
Psalm 25:4-5

How gracious of the Lord to refresh my soul and redirect my focus and put it on Him, where it belongs; what a precious blessing it is to not only know the ways of God but also teach them to our young son. My prayer is that I wait for the Lord all the day long, despite my circumstances and emotions.

I don't want to end this blog on a sad note, so just as a side blip, we took Jasper to Chick-Fil-A after his hair cut as a reward, and a cow came out to say hi to all the kids and Jasper just totally flipped out with joy! It was so cute! He kept loudly saying, "MOO!! BIG!! MOOOOO!!" all during lunch.

big boy undies!

Where, oh where, has the time gone?? How is it possible that our little munchkin is wearing undies?? I feel like it was just yesterday when I was pregnant and as big as a barn with this little bambino, and now he's running around the house, talking about a breadth of issues, and wearing undies!

Today is his 1st day wearing them and he LOVES them and is so proud to be a big boy. :o) Of course I took pictures, because in my heart, I feel that today is quite possibly the biggest days of his life (his wedding day is 2nd to this day). Today is the day that he's gone from being a baby to being a boy. I need tissues!

So thankful to have this precious little one.

(much to my dismay, most of the pics are quite yellow-y, but they still capture the memories of the morning.)

Jasper got to choose his undies and, of course, he choose the ones with the dinosaurs (I would be worried about him if he didn't).

Jasper's first, and hopefully last, underwear modeling session.

Picking out his cereal.

Trying to figure what out why I'm snapping the camera like crazy.

On the move...

Thirsty after all those Multi-Grain Cheerios.

One final picture.

And now he's very happy that I finally let him put clothes on! :o)

tubby video

We started this morning off with a tubby, due to a gigantic poop explosion caused by 587 blueberries from small groups last night. :o) The following video is not very exciting in the least, but it's a sweet glimpse into my everyday life with Jasper.

Our perfect day

Today is the type of day I dream about.

It was absolutely perfect.

I keep thanking God today for such a perfect, perfect day.

I wouldn't change a single thing.

It's Saturday, the 3 of us stayed home the whole day, the world right outside our windows is filled with lots of white snow, and we did nothing but stay inside and laugh and play and laugh some more.

Andrew and I played silly, goofy games with Jasper (and each other) all day. We all just hung out on the couch together, hung out on the floor together, hung out in the basement together, and just played, invented new games, played old games, and laughed.

Oh, there was quite a bit of squealing involved, too. We tend to feed off each other. When one starts squealing, it's impossibly hard for the others not to join in.

It's 8:36pm and I'm still in my pj's.

Jasper was so incredibly happy and hyper (super, duper hyper) all day until 3 pm when he crashed and took a 3 hour nap, during which Andrew and I raced upstairs and watched 3 episodes of our favorite tv show.

Then Jas woke up happy and hyper again at 6 pm, Andrew went out and got us the bomb Taco Bell  for dinner (ok, so I guess the hubs did leave the house once), I put on "classic love songs", and we ate our Taco Bell dinner then danced and danced around the kitchen to love songs (Jasper's new favorite thing is to twirl in circles then collapse on the floor saying, "dizzzzzzyy!!!!" and laugh and laugh- he really does get a kick out of himself.).

Then we played and laughed and chased each other around the house for the next hour an half.

Jas is now in bed and Andrew and I are getting ready to head back upstairs.

It's the type of day I dreamed of and, in fact, yearned for during those long, hard months and years when we prayed our hearts out for a child. God is so, so good.

It was pure bliss for us.

Peace out.
