So very thankful!!

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving this past week, celebrating all the many different ways God has blessed us with His faithful kindness. Some top blessings of my life:

- my salvation in Christ
- my amazing husband who never ceases to amaze me. I'm so thankful for his love, his witty humor, his steadfast endurance when life isn't always rosy, and his commitment to Christ and me & Jas. Love him.
- my darling son who wraps my heart around his little finger more and more each day.
- my (and Andrew's) family, family, family, family. I don't know where I'd be without my parents, siblings, and grandparents. Andrew and I so often talk about how we would be lost without the love and support (and humor) of our family.

Some other things I'm thankful for:
- sunny days
- neighbors who try really hard to be quiet during Jasper's nap time (even though they often get confused as to when his nap time actually is), who buy Jasper his favorite juice, who ask us to pray for them, who regularly remember important things in our life, and who bend over backward to minister to us even though they're 85 years old and can barely walk.
- friends. we have the most amazing friends in the world. Hands down.
- coffee when I'm tired.
- coffee when I'm not tired.
- rocket dog shoes and leather boots.
- 3 new pair of jeans that fit me well and are so comfy.
- cozy-ing up in bed with Andrew and watching a good show on tv
- belly laughs (Jasper is providing me more and more of those these days)
- not only friends, but friends (and family) who regularly pray with/for me and who care about things (often insignificant) in my life.
- finding a new, healthy, and relatively inexpensive meal to serve my family for dinner.
- having an impromptu photo shoot where most the pics turn out perfect (again, Jas has been helpful in this arena)
- leisurely mornings involving the treadmill, my bible, and a steaming bowl of oatmeal.
- saying "10-4 good buddy", "roger that", "over and out", and "if you choose to accept, your mission will be to......" in random conversations with my hubby.
- reading a good book
- cheerin' on the Bucks!
- and many more!!

This last week, we had the pleasure of having Andrew's parents stay with us for the week and we had such a blast!! Jasper is walking around, saying "Grama! Baba!" (aka grandma and grandpa) and looking longingly at the door for them (poor guy!). We played games, hung out with extended family, went shopping, Andrew and I went on dates, went to COSI, went to the park, made yummy food, cheered the Bucks on to a perfect season, celebrated our birthdays, read books, and much more! highlights :o)

This past week was somewhat long and lonely and gloomy for me. Andrew worked super-duper hard all week, leaving for work long before the sun came up and getting home from work long after the sun had set. He and Jasper saw each other very, very little this week and I found myself struggling to fill the long, long afternoon and evening hours with Jasper each night.

*side note- have I mentioned what an amazing man Andrew is?  His work ethic is so wonderful, and when he comes home exhausted every night, he spends his very little free time ministering to me and serving me. Love him.

Anyway, although I was lonely this week and each day kinda felt like an eternity, the Lord was so gracious to me and gave me lots of precious, joyful moments with Jasper, some new ideas of "playtime" with Jasper, and also some very fun "highlights" to the week.

Main highlight #1- we have a new nephew!!!!!!

Daniel James Weston III was born to Danny and Jurga on Tue morn and he is the most precious little bundle ever! We love him with our whole hearts and are quite smitten!

Other highlights from the week:

Highlight- Stromboli night with the Clausons

We cheered the Bucks on to victory, enjoyed strombolis, and played Dominion. Have I mentioned before how awesome the Clausons are? We greatly enjoy any time we get to spend with them and are so blessed by their friendship. 

Highlight- impromptu park playdate with Sarah K. and the kiddos. Love them!

Highlight- BSF

Highlight- getting to see my hubby a little bit, here and there.

Highlight- getting to visit Rach and her sweet, precious, newborn Audrey.

Highlight- ordering 2 new fiestaware colors to add to my collection (plum and turquoise).

Highlight- a very messy "Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese" dinner-date between me and Jas and a wild tubby time afterward. 

(Jas' favorite tubby-time activity is trying to see how much water he can dump on me with his blue cup. I was pretty soaked by the end :o))

Although it was a hard week, upon reflection, I have so, so many things to be thankful for. The Lord has given me SO much this week and I'm so thankful for all He's provided me with. 

That being said, after 3 months of Andrew's "busy season" at work, I'm really hoping it slows down a bit and he can be home for dinner occasionally in the near future. If not, though, that's ok. God will give us grace for each day.

Jasper woke up with some crazy bedhead this morning, and to be honest, nothing melts my heart quite like little-kid bedhead. Since the camera happened to be within arms reach, I snapped a few shots of his wispy, bedhead-ed hair this morn.

Because today is a glorious fall day here in the buckeye state, we decided to make the most of it and play/rake outside together as a family! We had a blast just being together, with the sun warming our backs, and Jasper was a great helper, too. Here are a few pics from our fabulous fall day!

(side note- although Jasper normally keeps his tongue on the inside of his mouth, for most of today he decided it should be on the outside. Just because. Pretty darn cute. :o))

Georgia on my mind...

Jasper and I just got back last night from a wonderful, wonderful week in Georgia with Andrew's parents. It was our first ever "Granparents' Week" with the Meades and it was a smashing success!!

Andrew drove down with us on last Friday and then flew home on Sunday evening, and it was so wonderful to have him with us for a few of the days; then Jasper and I stayed until yesterday, Friday, and made the 10 hour trip back up here to Ohio alone.

(side note- Jasper did absolutely fantastic during the drive back to Ohio. I was a little bit nervous about driving so many miles alone with a toddler, but he quite happily played peek-a-boo with himself in the back seat, giggling and giggling, for about 8 hours straight. Yes, the Lord was very gracious to me.)

 Jasper had a blast during Grandparents' Week and doted on his grandparents just as much as they doted on him! :o) I had such a wonderful, relaxing time and truly felt like I was on vacation the whole time. We were completely spoiled by the Meades' generosity and hospitality and below are a few highlights of things we did:

- the Atlanta zoo with Andrew, Nathan, and Mary Brantley complete with a picnic beforehand and grilling out steaks afterward. It was wonderful!!

- I got a spa day. I know. It was amazing!! Mom Meade watched Jasper the whole day while I got a 60 min. massage, went out to lunch, went shopping, and went to starbucks.

- visiting Grandma and Grandpa Meade (andrew's grandparents) for a day and us women going shopping for Christmas presents (thanks grandma!!! so sweet!!!). The men watched Jasper so we could shop in peace (so sweet!!) and we brought them "Hot and Now" Krispy Kremes when we returned!

- Feeding the ducks, going to a playground, and shopping at Khols.

-attending Lady's Bible study at the Meades' church and Chic FilA (and ice cream!!) afterward.

- going to BSF with my dear friend Bridget and lunch and shopping in Senioa afterward (side note- apparently there was a movie star from Waking Dead eating in the same cafe as us! we were oblivious.)

- I didn't have to cook (or even think about cooking) once. It was such a treat!



- Relaxing evenings spent chatting and/or watching HGTV while eating Ho-Ho cake (my all time favorite!!!)

- Watching Dad Meade chasing Jasper around and around and around in MANY circles, much to Jasper's ABSOLUTE delight!!

- Watching Jasper "mow the lawn" with his small toy mower and also on Dad Meade's lap on the real mower!

- drinking Bubble Tea!!

- getting Jasper new pj's from Khol's.

We had SO SO much fun during Grandparent's week and were so blessed to be able to spend the time with fam!! Thanks Mom and Dad Meade!!

Power tools

So, when I get an idea in my head, I run with it. I tend to do "all or nothing", "go big or go home" whenever I'm working on a project. I can also be pretty independent when working on projects; I like being able to do things myself.

Anyway, I started a project this afternoon and I needed Andrew's help with part of it. Andrew, however, was at work, so we texted back and forth and afterward, i re-read our "texting conversation" and found it entertaining. It went like this:

me: hey- how do you get that little piece out of the end of the Dremel (andrew's power tool) so I can put a different one in there?

Andrew- whaaaaaaat??!! maybe I should just do that... what r u planning?

me- no. i can do it. Just tell me how to switch it. I've already been using your drill. But the drill doesn't seem to be doing what I want it to do.

Andrew- ur makin' me scared, hon.

me- Please just tell me. You're delaying my "rest time".

Andrew- I will help u if u tell me what ur trying to do.

me- please just tell me.

Andrew- there's a little wrench in the bit box that fits on the flat part of the collar of the dremel. you have to twist the rotor until you can depress the black button near the tip. that locks it in place so that you can use the wrench to loosen the chuck and change your bit. Then you need to tighten it back up before using it. Please consider eye protection.

- long period of silence-

me- that sounds complicated.

Andrew- can I do it for u when i get home? Please??

me- sigh. ok. but I like being able to do things on my own.

Andrew- if u like, I can just show u how to do it and then u can do ur thing.

me- ok. I was using the drill, but the thingys kept flying out the end when I got it up to high speed. I think the dremel might be better.

Andrew- I totally trust u, but I'm still scared.

me- lol. I was just trying to fix my jeans.

Andrew- hmmm... typically that doesn't involve high-speed power tools but ok. I'll help you when I get home.

Just one of the many reasons I love this man. :o)

(also, the jeans have been fixed!! hooray! Lo and behold, we only needed a pen and not the high-speed power tools I spent the afternoon trying to figure out how to use. It was Andrew's idea to use the pen and it was brilliant!)

New Toy!!

Andrew and I have never actually bought Jasper a toy before.

For Christmas, we got him nothing.

For his birthday, we got him a water bottle (which he loved, by the way).

In July, I got him a little "doo-dad" for 10 cents from the thrift store.

But that's it. No new toy, nothing, nada. Occasionally I'll give him a spatula and act like it's an amazing new toy for him to play with, but after 6 months of the spatula trick, Jasper is no longer impressed with the long piece of plastic.

Anyway, I was at Target on Saturday, and I came across these funky little bouncy balls that, when you throw them, they light up and flash all sorts of colors. I new instantly that Jasper would LOVE these. Not wanting to spoil him, though, I walked around the store for half an hour wondering if I should splurge the $2 to buy him his very first toy from Momma and Dada. In the end, I couldn't resist, and it's not like the $2 was going to break the bank, so I bought him the "LED light-up ball".

To say that Jasper was overjoyed with his new ball is a complete understatement. He is in complete, absolute, total love with this ball. The first thing he does when he gets out of his crib is grab both froggies, his big monkey blanket from the Clausons, a paci, his sippy cup, (yes, he likes to have all his favorite things around him at all times) and then run full blast to his new ball. Then his jaw drops and he just grins and grins and squeals and grins some more! Occasionally, he spins around in a circle as an extra expression of joy!

I'm not sure what he likes more- the new light-up ball or the fact that after 17 and a half months, he finally has something new to play with.

But it's so precious!! I love watching him get so much joy out of his toy and it's a good reminder to me that somewhere in the Bible, it says something to the effect of, "just as a parent loves to give good gifts to his child, so does the Heavenly Father delight in giving good gifts to those who love Him".
